How to Get Your Visa Documents in Korea Without Visiting the Bank

8

If you've been in Korea for six months on a study, work, or residency visa, it's time to start thinking about renewal.  The catch is that it's rarely straightforward. Appointments at the immigration office are often booked weeks out, and applying online isn't much easier, as the required documents need to be obtained from several different institutions.

What most people don't realize is that many of these documents can be issued instantly from the Toss app for free at any time you need them. This article covers exactly what to prepare and how to get it done.

5 Documents You Need for Visa Renewal

The documents required vary depending on your visa type, but financial and administrative documents are almost always on the list. Some of these can be requested from your school or employer, such as proof of enrollment or an employment contract. Others, however, you'll need to obtain on your own. Here's how to get a range of documents from Toss.

1. Bank Balance Certificate (잔액증명서)

A bank statement shows that you have sufficient funds to support yourself during your stay, and is required for nearly every visa type.

Getting one used to mean squeezing in a visit to a branch during business hours. And if you need an English version, that's another step added. Some banks offer online issuance, but this is often limited for foreign-held accounts, making a branch visit inevitable in most cases.

With Toss, you can get your bank statement in English for free right from the app.

✅ How to issue: Toss app → [All] → Search “Balance Certificate” (잔액증명서) → Select issuance method, language, and account → [Issue]

*Keep in mind this service is only available for Toss Bank accounts.

2. Transaction Statement (거래내역 확인서)

Some visa types ask for more than just your current balance. They want a record of your transactions over a given period to verify that tuition payments have been made, or that your salary is coming in regularly.

The process is the same as getting the balance certificate, available in English and free of charge.

3. Alien Registration Certificate (외국인등록사실증명서)

This is the foreigner equivalent of Korea's standard resident registration certificate (주민등록등본). You'll need it for more than just visa renewal. Bank account applications, apartment leases, and most official processes in Korea all require one.

Getting it, however, used to mean visiting an immigration office or community center (주민센터) in person, or navigating the Gov24 website with a Korean digital certificate called the Accredited Certificate (공인인증서). Most foreigners don't have one, making the online route largely inaccessible.

On Toss, you can issue it using your Toss Certificate (토스인증서) instead. The Toss Certificate is a digital ID available to any Toss user. All you need is to verify your identity with a PIN or biometric scan, with no Accredited Certificate (공인인증서) needed. The only requirements are that you've been in Korea for at least 90 days and have a valid Alien Registration Number.

4. Certificate of Health Insurance Qualification (건강보험자격득실확인서)

Foreigners staying in Korea for more than six months are required to enroll in National Health Insurance. When applying for visa renewal, immigration will check both your enrollment status and whether your premiums are current. If payments are overdue, your renewal can be denied.

Issue this document on Toss with your Toss Certificate. No Accredited Certificate (공인인증서) is needed, and is free of charge.

✅ How to issue: Toss app → [All] → Search “Issue Certificate of Health Insurance Qualification” (건강보험자격득실확인서) → Verify with Toss Certificate → [Issue]

5. Tax Payment Certificate (납세증명서)

For those earning income in Korea, whether on a work visa like E-7 or through a part-time job as a student, proof of tax payment may be required for renewal. Traditionally, this meant using the HomeTax website, which requires an Accredited Certificate (공인인증서), or visiting the tax office in person. With Toss, you can get it using just your Toss Certificate, for free.

✅ How to issue: Toss app → [All] → Search “Tax Payment Certificate” (납세증명서) → Verify with Toss Certificate → [Issue]

Visa extensions are already complicated on their own, but getting the documents doesn't have to be. Toss makes it quick and easy.
