Toss Surpasses 2 Million Subscribers for Facial Recognition Payment Service “FacePay”

Toss announced that cumulative subscribers to its facial recognition-based payment service, “FacePay,” have exceeded 2 million.
The milestone comes approximately five months after the service’s official launch in September last year, and just two and a half months after surpassing 1 million subscribers. During the comparable period immediately following launch, approximately 600,000 users signed up, underscoring the acceleration in recent growth. On average, more than 13,000 new users joined per day - equivalent to one new subscriber every seven seconds.
FacePay is rapidly evolving beyond a novel technology into a mainstream payment method. In December 2025, its monthly active users (MAU) increased by more than 180% month-over-month, signaling a sharp rise in actual usage rather than simple registrations.
A loyal base of heavy users is taking shape. The most active user averaged 8.08 transactions per day on days when payments were made, surpassing 300 cumulative transactions to date. Frequent use across everyday settings, including cafes, restaurants, and convenience stores, demonstrates how FacePay is becoming embedded in daily routines.
The momentum is attributed to FacePay’s seamless user experience and robust security infrastructure. Payments are completed in under one second simply by looking at a terminal, without the need for any additional device—an experience that aligns with growing consumer demand for convenience. In addition, Toss has also lowered psychological barriers to adoption through its strong security framework, including passing the Personal Information Protection Commission’s pre-adequacy review and implementing advanced anti-spoofing (liveness detection) technology.
“Surpassing 2 million subscribers and the sharp increase in MAU demonstrate that FacePay has moved beyond a novel technology to become a payment habit,” said a Toss representative. “We will continue to expand acceptance locations while further enhancing the overall payment experience.”
