Toss Overseas Offline Payment Up 4X, Tosspay Available Globally
- Use QR codes and barcodes in the Toss app for easy payments overseas
- Revamped Overseas Travel Home page covers everything from payments to airport departure preparation
Viva Republica, the operator of the financial super app “Toss,” announced that the volume of overseas offline payments made through its simple payment service, Tosspay, in the first half of this year grew four times compared to the same period last year.

Tosspay is now available in 55 countries worldwide and can be used simply by scanning a QR code or barcode. Without needing to exchange currency separately, payments are automatically converted in real time to the local currency from the account linked to Tosspay. Users can also earn and use Toss Points just as they do domestically.
The top five countries with the highest usage of Tosspay’s overseas payment service in the first half of the year were China, Japan, Thailand, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
Toss attributed the growth in transaction volume to the steady increase in overseas travelers and the impact of the revamped ‘Overseas Travel Home’ page, which gathers all travel-related features in one place. This integrated service allows users to manage everything related to their trip in the Toss app—from payments and currency exchange to travel insurance and airport departure preparations.
In particular, a new ‘Incheon Airport’ tab was added to the Overseas Travel Home in the first half of the year. Users can check real-time information such as congestion levels in the departure hall, parking locations, and their boarding gate and time directly through the app. This improvement organizes previously scattered information into one clear path, making it more convenient for users.
Additionally, since December of last year, the ‘Smart Pass’ feature, which allows users to pass through the airport departure hall and boarding gates using facial recognition, has been available through the Overseas Travel Home. When users pre-register their electronic passport, face data, and boarding pass in the Toss app, they can pass through Incheon International Airport’s departure hall and certain airline boarding gates with just facial authentication—no need to take out their passport or boarding pass.
“We believe the significant increase in overseas payment transactions in the first half of this year resulted from seamlessly connecting various travel steps within one app,” a Toss representative said. “We will continue to expand our service to help more users prepare for and enjoy overseas travel easily with Toss.”
